system that originated in India and its use is widespread there. The word Ayurveda comes from Sanskrit and means &#8220;science of life&#8221;, Ayu means &#8220;life&#8221; or &#8220;daily life&#8221; and Veda means &#8220;knowledge&#8221;. Ayurveda was first written down in the Vedas, the oldest traditional scriptures of mankind. For over 5,000 years, this healing art has been used daily in India.<\/p>\n<p>In Ayurveda, the maintenance and promotion of health is as important as the treatment and elimination of disease. Ayurveda defines both as its goals. It is in the area of salutogenesis (maintaining health) and disease prevention that Ayurveda&#8217;s strengths lie.<\/p>\n<p>Ayurvedic therapy takes into account the individual constitution of each person.
